Intracept® Specialist
Serving Hinsdale, Chicago, & Calumet City, IL
Millions of Americans suffer from chronic low back pain. If a patient doesn’t respond well to non-surgical treatment methods, traditional thinking is that spinal fusion is the last option. Fortunately, the Intracept® Procedure could bring some potential relief for their chronic low back pain.

What Is the Intracept® Procedure?
Pinnacle Pain Management Specialists offers this outpatient, minimally invasive procedure which targets the basivertebral nerve located in the spine.
What Happens During Intracept® and How Does It Resolve Lower Back Pain?
An Intracept® probe is placed into the vertebrae through a small incision in the back.Once the probe is at the basivertebral nerve, radiofrequency energy disables the nerve, which is also known as basivertebral nerve ablation.
The basivertebral nerve is partially responsible for chronic lower back pain. The probe burns that nerve, blocking the pain signals before they can reach the end plates of the vertebrae where there is chronic lower back pain.
Is the Intracept® Procedure Right For Me?
The Intracept® procedure provides options for individuals who have not responded well to conventional treatment therapy for their lower back pain. This treatment is minimally invasive, it is implant-free, and allows the patient to keep the existing structure of their spine. This procedure provides durable relief of chronic lower back pain.
Intracept® could potentially be a good treatment for those who suffer lower back pain because it was recently FDA approved. It received good results during its trial period and is now available at pain management centers like Pinnacle Pain Management Specialists. The Intracept® procedure could be a good fit for you if you are:
- Have vertebrogenic pain, degenerative disc disease, or discogenic pain.
- Suffer from muscle or ligament strains.
- Have herniated discs.
- Are experiencing facet joint dysfunction.
- Suffer from osteoarthritis, trauma, compression fractures, SCI joint dysfunction, or have other lower back issues.
How Long Does the Intracept® Procedure Take?
Since Intracept® is a minimally invasive treatment, it does not require a long time while at Pinnacle Pain Management Specialists. On average, the procedure takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
